Summary
A Litigation Support Specialist provides technical support and expertise for attorneys and legal teams during all phases of litigation, from pre-trial discovery through trial and post-trial filings. This role involves managing electronic discovery (eDiscovery), database management, document review platforms, trial preparation, and assisting with courtroom technology. The specialist ensures that legal teams have access to the right information, tools, and reporting capabilities to prepare, present, and manage cases efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain litigation databases and document management systems (e.g., Relativity, Concordance).
- Support eDiscovery processes, including data collection, processing, review, and production of electronic data.
- Assist legal teams with the setup and management of trial technology and presentation tools (e.g., TrialDirector, Sanction).
- Provide training and technical support to attorneys and paralegals on litigation support tools.
- Coordinate with IT and outside vendors for data processing, hosting, and forensic collections.
- Ensure data security, chain of custody, and compliance with legal protocols.
- Generate reports, perform quality control, and oversee production of electronic and paper-based discovery materials.
- Troubleshoot technical issues related to legal technology tools in high-pressure environments.
- Stay updated on litigation support best practices, legal technology trends, and industry standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in legal studies, information technology, or related field.
- 2-4 years of experience in litigation support or eDiscovery roles.
- Proficiency with eDiscovery platforms (e.g., Relativity, Concordance, Logikcull, Everlaw).
- Familiarity with document review tools, trial presentation software, and forensic data collection.
- Strong understanding of legal processes, FRCP (Federal Rules of Civil Procedure), and eDiscovery protocols.
- Experience handling confidential documents and maintaining data security.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and client support skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in fast-paced settings.
- Certifications such as Relativity Certified Administrator, ACEDS, or equivalent are highly desirable.
