Summary
The Crypto Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that a cryptocurrency organization adheres to all relevant anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorism financing (CTF), Know Your Customer (KYC), and other industry regulations. This role manages compliance frameworks, conducts audits, monitors transactions, and establishes policies to mitigate regulatory risk. The officer serves as the bridge between legal requirements and operational actions, providing guidance and oversight across departments to support ethical and legal business growth.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls specific to cryptocurrency operations.
- Monitor and ensure the organization's ongoing compliance with AML, KYC, CTF, and other applicable regulations.
- Stay updated with regulatory changes and industry trends affecting crypto markets and recommend proactive business responses.
- Conduct transaction monitoring, suspicious activity investigations, and risk assessments.
- Lead compliance training sessions for staff concerning applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, auditors, legal counsel, and industry groups as required.
- Prepare and submit compliance reports, suspicious activity reports (SARs), and other required documentation.
- Conduct regular compliance audits and gap analyses.
- Collaborate with technology teams to ensure compliance systems are robust and up to date.
- Advise product and technology teams on compliance implications for new services or features.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business, Accounting, or a related field; JD, MBA, or equivalent preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in compliance, risk management, AML/CTF, preferably within the cryptocurrency or financial technology sector.
- Strong knowledge of AML, KYC, and CTF regulations related to digital assets and crypto exchanges.
- Professional certifications such as CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) or equivalent are strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with blockchain analysis and crypto transaction monitoring tools.
- Exceptional analytical, investigative, and reporting skills.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership abilities.
- Experience in policy writing and implementation.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory environment.
