Skills are what your role is made of. StackFactor doesn't treat a skill as a single checkbox. It breaks each one into proficiency levels and microskills, so you can see exactly where you are today and what to learn next.

Proficiency levels
Every skill has five proficiency levels, from beginner to expert: Fundamental Awareness, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Expert. Each level describes:
- Expected Behaviors — what someone at this level can do on the job.
- Microskills — the specific pieces of knowledge at this level.
- Typical Experience — how much experience people at this level usually have.
Microskills and skill domains
Microskills are the small, specific pieces of knowledge that make up a skill. They're what quizzes test you on and what learning content teaches.
Related microskills are grouped into skill domains, the major capability areas within a skill.
Why it matters to you
- Your role sets the proficiency level you need in each skill.
- A skill assessment measures the level you're at today.
- The difference between the two is your skill gap, and your development plan is built to close it.
